In the ongoing Presidential Tribunal in Abuja, the Lawyer to the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Levi Uzoukwu has lambasted the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for not ready to defend its case at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
The Lawyer said this, a moment after the Court adjourned its resumed sitting, because of the absence of INEC's first defence witness. In course of his answering of the Press, outside the court, the Lawyer affirmed them that his side has a strong case and they are ready to move on with their case, unlike the INEC that has continued to show inconsistencies.
Uzoukwu said, "Given the contradictions and inconsistencies and what INEC has done, I'm sure they are not ready to defend this case. I stand to be proven wrong, but I would wish that they defend this matter so that the public will see more things of what happened to this election."
In the course of responding to the interview, he said that, in the political history of Nigeria, there had not been an election like that of February 25th Presidential poll. The legal luminary said that, it's left to INEC, to either call a witness or witnesses. In addition, he said, he and his client, which is the LP, are ready at all times.
At the Presidential Tribunal, the counsel to INEC, Abubakar Mahmoud, filed for an adjournment till Tuesday, because the witness for today, failed to show up due to domestic issues. The Lawyer of the other parties agreed to the request filed by the INEC's counsel. The Chairman of the panel for the tribunal, Justice Haruna Tsammani, adjourned the case till 9am on Tuesday for the continuation of the case.
